2 JULY 2015
The brand new Premier Inn at Kingston upon Thames has officially opened its doors to the public, marking an investment of £12 million* into the local economy whilst creating over 45 new jobs for residents of the borough and the surrounding area.
Premier Inn’s 700th hotel was officially opened on Wednesday 1st July by Team GB sprinter and former BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, who began his athletics career in Kingston, and Simon Jones, Managing Director of Premier Inn UK. Councillor Roy Arora, Mayor for Kingston upon Thames and Surbiton, and his wife supported the ceremony. Tanja Kuveljiic, the Chief Executive of Believe in Young People (BiYP), a charity committed to helping young people find the right career destination, also spoke at the event about BiYP’s and Premier Inn's dedication to encouraging school leavers into the hospitality industry.
To celebrate the opening of the hotel, some local school children from Southborough High School attended the event and met Harry Aikines-Aryeetey who cut the ribbon with Simon Jones. Guests at the event were welcomed into the brand new hotel and given a tour of the spacious rooms featuring Premier Inn’s luxurious Hypnos bed.
Simon Jones, Managing Director for Premier Inn UK and hub by Premier Inn, comments:
“I'm delighted to have opened this great addition to the Premier Inn portfolio. Kingston is a brilliant historic location and we know that the demand is there for customers travelling from far flung destinations to visit the local tourist hotspots like Hampton Court nearby, but also for those who are looking for a great night’s sleep and delicious breakfast before an important meeting in the city. Our hotels cater for a wide range of customers and we are popular with families, couples and business travellers alike. We have reached a real milestone by opening our 700th hotel and Premier Inn’s can be found in more locations than any other hotel chain in the UK for the ease and convenience of our customers.”
Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Team GB sprinter and former BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, commented:
"To have the opportunity to come back to Kingston to celebrate the opening of Premier Inn's 700th hotel was fantastic. I grew up training at Kingsmeadow Athletics centre – not far from this hotel - and Kingston has always been a town close to my heart so it's great to see a new hotel that will allow more people to come and enjoy their stay in the area."
