Check it out: Premier Inn commences world’s largest mobile keys in wallet rollout

hub by Premier Inn is first to launch
Secure mobile keys unlock fast-track straight-to-room access
A compact hotel brand offering value rooms in prime city centre locations is spearheading the world’s largest roll-out of secure, direct-to-room access via room keys available via guest’s mobile wallet.
hub by Premier Inn which has smart, compact hotels in London and Edinburgh, designed for savvy city travellers for where every minute matters has launched mobile keys, initiating the biggest adoption of this technology in hotels globally.
Mobile keys give guests the choice to check in online pre-arrival with keys added to the wallet on their smartphone or watch. Guests can also get a mobile key via a QR code at the hotel and those who prefer to, can still check-in at reception or with a self-serve kiosk if they wish.
Extensive guest research through piloting mobile keys including in the latest addition to the brand portfolio, hub London Farringdon (Old Bailey), has revealed that hub guests value the speed, ease and convenience of having the option to have their key on their phone. It is hoped the investment will prove particularly attractive for time-pressed travellers who prefer the ability of skipping the front desk check-in process and heading straight to their rooms.
Head of Marketing for hub Yasmin Mukhida-Olushola said: “With hotels in world-famous, heart-of London and Edinburgh locations including Westminster, Tower Bridge, Brick Lane, Princes Street and Royal Mile, hub truly is the smarter way to maximise city stays. Guests stay with us because they want a quick recharge before heading out into the city for work or play so we know every moment is precious. We’re delighted to help make life even easier with the choice of fast-track mobile keys allowing guests to check in before arrival and go straight to room using their phone”.
Additional benefits from adopting mobile keys include further empowering frontline teams to perform hosting tasks such as welcoming guests and offering information such as local hints and tips. Ordering fewer plastic room keys is also a more sustainable option, predicted to reduce waste to landfill.
The introduction of mobile keys in hub is the first phase of a broader roll-out of keys to all hotels at the broader 850+ Premier Inn estate in the UK and Germany, which is owned by the same company. Completion in Premier Inn is expected by end of 2027. The solution will be deployed across the entire hotel estate of over 97,000 rooms.
Initially, Premier Inn will leverage the Alliants Experience Platform (AXP), on a Software as a Service (SaaS) basis, to launch digital room keys, offering their guests the choice to access their rooms effortlessly via a seamless new experience.
Premier Inn and Alliants are partnering with Apple, Google, Dormakaba, Legic and Assa Abloy to deliver the service.
