A Whitbread programme manager is taking on a mammoth cycling challenge to raise money for the charity Cleft Lip and Palate Action (CLAPA).

Lousie Cox, who has worked at Whitbread (owner of Premier Inn) for 11 years, and her husband to be, Dale, have decided to challenge themselves in one of the biggest ways possible. Taking on the cycling challenge LEJOG, they plan to cycle an average of 75 miles per day across 13 days in mid-May travelling a total of 1035 miles in total.

The challenge is named LEJOG after the start and finishing points of the cycle, which speaks further to the impressive nature of the ride. Starting from one of the most southernly points in the UK, Land’s End (LE), they will then cycle to the most northernly point of the UK, John O’Groats (JOG). The challenge, which will take 13 days, will see them staying where else but Premier Inn, which has hotels in every major town and city in the UK.

Speaking to the prospect of spending so much time in the hotel chain’s rooms, Louise said: “You know what you’re getting with Premier Inn. It’s nice to know that I will have a super comfy bed at the end of each night, and a hot bath or shower.”

This idea came from her partner, with it being his 40th birthday this year, he wanted to take on a major challenge for the major milestone. Starting on Friday May 15 and finishing on Thursday May 28, the money raised will go towards Cleft lip and Palate charity CLAPA. With this charity being supportive to a close member of the family, the pair wanted to celebrate CLAPA in a unique way.

Louise is aware of the challenges this effort will present, stating she is least looking forward to the pain of the ride, especially considering they are carrying their gear with them throughout the journey.

Speaking on the event, Louise also said: “I am looking forward to seeing many beautiful places in the UK, and obviously some of the best cafés for the odd cake stop. Most mornings a continental breakfast would be much better for fuel purposes, and obviously a cup of tea.”

With lots of training and carb loading leading up to LEJOG, rest assured Louise and Dale will be ready and excited for this long-haul event.
