A hotel manager has recently completed a mammoth cycling challenge for an exceptional children’s charity.

A Gosport hotel manager from Premier Inn has recently completed an immense challenge to cycle around the Isle of Wight in order to raise money for the Great Ormand Street Hospital Charity (GOSH), as a part of their mascot’s (Bernard the Bear) relay in the Hampshire region.

Father of 2, Roy Fogwill, known by his peers as “PE Teacher” for his love of all things sports-related, set out to travel around the Isle of Wight solely by bike, transporting Bernard the Bear from site to site. With his colleague, manager of the Southsea Premier Inn, Alice Fields, they set off from the Gosport Premier Inn, Bernard Bear in hand, to start their fundraising feat.

The team of two cycled to the Dockyard where Bernard Bear was lucky enough to captain the ferry on the crossing. From the Dockyard, the pair visited all 3 Premier Inn hotels on the Isle of Wight, followed by a trip to Southsea after a pit stop at Gunwharf. They finished a long day and journey at the Portsmouth City Centre Premier Inn.

Roy’s sporty personality is reflected in the work he does to raise money for GOSH, when he’s out of work his sporty attire is always brought up in conversation. Shorts in all kinds of weather – we all know someone!! This speaks to his sports-like nature and active mindset, a lover of all sports and showing pride in his support of Portsmouth F.C. His most recent cycling endeavours raised just over £500, a small part of an estimated £10,000 contribution from him and his hotel in his 5 year tenure in his role

Roy has taken part in several sporting challenges in aid of GOSH Charity, including Race for Kids, where he raised £700, and another bike ride from Gosport to the Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he raised over £1000. Speaking about GOSH, Roy stated:

“My passion for GOSH Charity stems from the belief that all kids deserve a chance at a happy and healthy life, and GOSH gives them that”.

He added “GOSH does great work and they have an authenticity in how they do it. I feel really passionately about the charity and will try and take part or organise at least one fundraising activity ever year.

Premier Inn’s charity partnership with GOSH Charity is one of the longest standing UK charity relationships. It’s latest commitment to raise £20 million for the new Children’s Cancer Centre has just hit an incredible milestone with an amazing £10 million being raised. The centre will bring life-changing care and hope to children facing cancer across the UK. Over the course of Whitbread and GOSH Charity’s partnership, more than £27 million has been raised for seriously ill children treated at GOSH.
