Diversity and Inclusion

We will be for everyone, championing inclusivity across the organisation and improving diversity

Whether you’re working with us or enjoying our hospitality, our hotels, restaurants and Support Centre will be for everyone. We are seeking to break down all barriers to entry and will ensure that everyone feels cared for, represented and respected, no matter how they identify.

We will seek to break down all barriers to entry and be an inclusive and representative prospective employer

We recognise the importance of our team members being as diverse as the customers we serve and the communities we are a part of. As a hospitality business we are committed to removing barriers to entry and creating an environment where everyone feels valued and where they can grow.

Our diversity and inclusion statement applies to all of our job advertisements "Whitbread is an inclusive employer, strongly believing that everyone is unique and there should be no limits to ambition. We welcome your application whatever your background or situation. We are open to flexible working and, where possible, will try to support this."

We stand by this commitment and we are continuously reviewing our recruitment practices to ensure that we keep reaching and attracting people of all backgrounds and situations into all areas of our business, bringing different insight, perspective and ideas into everything that we do. Some examples of this are:

  • We work closely with the JobCentrePlus on both a local and national level and we are a leading promoter of Hospitality Works, a national initiative led by The British Hospitality Association in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions. We offer Work Placement opportunities to allow job seekers to immerse themselves fully into a role within one of our Hotels or Restaurants to see if hospitality is the right industry for them. We also work closely with the JCP to create Sector Based Work Academies, particularly within our new site openings. This offers a fantastic opportunity for us to make a positive impact within local communities.
  • By signing the Ministry of Defence Covenant, Whitbread are committed to working with the MOD to support both those leaving the armed forces and serving military’s families. We will work with the Careers Transition Partnership and Forces Family Network to promote opportunities within Whitbread. We believe the hospitality industry can offer a great opportunity to utilise many elements of training received when serving.
  • Premier Inn has worked in partnership with Derwen College since 2013 and Hereward College since 2019. These colleges provide training for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, by giving them vital independence skills and preparing them for the workplace. Premier Inn provides the young students of Derwen and Hereward with training, work experience and employment opportunities at our local hotels.
  • Our people’s stories are the best way for us to share why Whitbread is so special, we use #changeyourstory to highlight great role models who have inspired us. Sometimes people’s stories change while they are with us, sometimes we are privileged enough to play a part in changing people’s stories by offering them an opportunity. Whatever your life stage, there are no barriers to what you can achieve with us.
Our people will feel represented and respected, no matter how they identify

We are constantly seeking to understand the views, concerns and needs of our diverse teams, acting on feedback and making changes that improve on our inclusive culture.

We are committed to increasing our diversity representation within our senior leadership team, so that we have diversity of thought in decision making and our employees feel represented at all levels, no matter how they identify.

We continue to be focused on shifting the dial on Gender, Ethnicity, Disability and LGBTQ representation throughout the organisation and have set ourselves focused plans to achieve this goal; with regards to gender, we hold ourselves to the recommendations of the Hampton Alexander Review and strive for a minimum of 30% female representation.
