CEO’s comment on diversity

Important global events: A message from our CEO

People have been and will always be at the heart of Whitbread.

Around the world people have understandably been shocked by the events in the USA and in particular the killing of George Floyd.

The level of activity demonstrates the strength of feeling towards the issues that many Black, Asian and ethnic minority people sadly face. It’s been a very real and a very stark reminder that a sense of true inclusivity is not yet a reality for everyone.

At Whitbread we have made a commitment to put diversity at the core of our business agenda and set ourselves the aim to be the most inclusive hospitality business.

We recognise that we need to do more to be a place of work that is as diverse as the customers we serve – in every part of our business.

Of course, actions speak louder than words.

We spent much of last year listening to our teams about how inclusive we are, with a focus on ethnicity where we specifically sought the views of colleagues from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds.

This feedback has formed the foundation of a clear enhanced diversity strategy to guide an accelerated pace of progress as we emerge from this crisis.

I believe that Whitbread and everyone who works here has a role to play, both personally and collectively, in bringing about positive change.
