Costa Coffee: The UK's favourite
Costa has grown significantly over the past 5 years and is now estimated to have 40% market share of all UK branded coffee shops, with over 1,500 stores. The branded coffee shop sector is experiencing very strong growth, predicted to grow at 6.7% (CAGR) in the next 3 years.
Costa has also enjoyed positive customer feedback, voted the Nation's Favourite Coffee Shop for the past 2 years running. In the UK's largest independent study of the coffee shop market, run by Allegra strategies in 2011, 40% of consumers voted for Costa as their favourite UK coffee shop. The study used an independent panel of 8,413 consumers who were not loyal customers of any UK brand, to ensure that results were an accurate reflection of the general population. Costa enjoyed more good news this year, voted as the number one brand for Coffee Quality by UK consumers (Allegra Strategies Project Cafe report, 2011).
We were founded by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971, and have enjoyed an amazing journey since we opened our first store in London. In addition to over 1,500 stores in the UK, we have over 900 overseas.
In a market where purchase has historically been driven by convenience rather than quality, Costa has successfully challenged the way we think, buy and consume coffee. Only the very best coffee available can go into creating the unique taste and aroma of our Costa Mocha Italia blend - in fact, just 1% of the world's production is good enough for us to choose from.
Costa Coffee was the first UK coffee shop chain to commit to sourcing Rainforest Alliance Certified Coffee. All of our baristas are coached in the art of hand making coffee at our unique Costa Coffee Training Academies.
We set up a registered charity in 2006 called the Costa Foundation, which gives back to the communities in the countries from which coffee is sourced and grown. For more information on our projects, please visit http://www.costa.co.uk/costa-foundation/
