Hotel report awards 2009 - Alan Parker named Individual of the Year

Over 150 hotel industry leaders attended the Hotel Report Awards Thursday 19 February at Banqueting House in London where Alan Parker, Chief Executive of Whitbread PLC was named Individual of the Year.

Hotel Report is an influential newsletter for the hotel industry. Rather like the Oscars, an ‘academy' of about 500 senior people from across the industry first nominate and then select a winner for each of nine awards.

Alan Parker said: "This is further recognition for the great achievements of all our brands over the last twelve months and I am very proud to be representing Whitbread in this way."

Previous experience:
Managing director of Crest Hotels Europe, senior vice-president of Holiday Inn Europe, Middle East and Africa. Joined Whitbread in 1992 as managing director of Whitbread Hotel Company.

In May 2007 Alan Parker was inducted into the prestigious UK Travel Industry Hall of Fame in recognition of his hard work and contribution to the hospitality industry.

Alan, whose career spans over 30 years in the hospitality sector, will join the likes of Virgin founder, Sir Richard Branson, Founder of Easyjet, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Chairman of British Airways, Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge, and Whitbread Non Executive Director, Charles Gurassa.

The British Travel Industry Hall of Fame, now in its 13th year, was set up to honour excellence and outstanding achievement in those who have played a significant role in developing the travel, hospitality and tourism industry.
