9 September 2014

Costa Coffee, the UK’s favourite coffee shop chain and part of Whitbread PLC, today announced their plans to enter the Philippines, in partnership with Robinsons Retail Holdings.

With stores already located in Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia, the move into the Philippines continues to build on their presence in South East Asia, with the first store planned to open in Manila early next year.

Andy Marshall, Managing Director of Costa Coffee International Franchise commented “Costa is a truly global brand that is enjoyed by customers all over the world.  We are pleased to be extending our reach into the Philippines, where there is already an established coffee culture.

“We look forward to serving our customers and contributing to the local communities that we will operate in.  We want everyone who walks into a Costa to enjoy their handcrafted coffee in a warm and welcoming environment, which is why our stores are specially designed to be comfortable and inviting.

“We envisage a significant store opening programme over the coming years, which will provide further employment opportunities and a stable infrastructure to continue our growth in the South East Asia region.

“We have a great partner in Robinsons Retail Holdings who have an enviable track record of managing and growing large international brands in the region. We look forward to working with them to deliver this exciting opportunity.”

Robina Gokongwei-Pe, President and COO of Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. said “We are really excited to bring the Costa experience to the Filipino people, and we can’t wait to share our Barista’s expertise and passion with them.  Not only are we offering irresistible coffee that leaves customers smiling but we will be accompanying it with a range of sweet and savoury treats.

“We are pleased to be part of Costa’s exciting plans for growth in South East Asia and we look forward to forming a long term partnership with the brand.  We will continue to invest in the region and bring additional job opportunities to the Filipino people.”

About Costa Coffee

Costa was founded in London by Italian brothers Bruno and Sergio Costa in 1971, now over 40 years later it is known as the home of irresistible coffee, and represents the second largest international coffee shop operator in the world.

At present Costa operates across 30 countries and has more than 2,900 stores globally, covering operations in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, North Africa, India, China and South East Asia.

Costa has been voted “Best Branded Coffee Shop Chain in the UK and Ireland" by Allegra Strategies for four years running (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013), “Best Branded Coffee Shop Chain in Europe” for three years running (2011, 2012, 2013) and also Winner of “Best Branded Coffee Shop Chain in Southern Europe” in 2013.

Costa cares about each and every process required to make their irresistible coffee and that starts with the coffee growing communities that produce Costa’s crop.  That’s why 100% of the coffee used in all countries to make Costa’s signature Mocha Italia blend comes from sustainably grown beans sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms.

In 2006 Costa set up the Costa Foundation; an independent registered charity that helps improves the social and economic welfare of coffee growing communities around the world.
