Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, today announced that through the phenomenal fundraising efforts of its team members and the generosity of guests and suppliers, it has now raised an impressive £5m for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
This is a significant milestone, for both the charity and for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, as the business is already two thirds of the way towards meeting its overall goal to raise £7.5m to help fund the Premier Inn Clinical Building, a brand new state-of-the-art facility at Great Ormond Street Hospital, due to open in autumn 2017.
The milestone was announced to team members at recent gala events. Staff heard from Karen, mother of 18 year old GOSH patient Tom, who shared the extraordinary story of her son’s treatment at the hospital. Karen told a captivated audience how grateful families like hers are to fundraisers like them, who not only raise lots of money but also raise awareness for the hospital and charity. She said: “your fantastic fundraising efforts are helping to replace, outdated wards in some of the hospital’s oldest buildings with world class facilities. For children like Tom and families like ours, the difference will be unbelievable.”
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants for all their hard work and dedication in raising an amazing £5m,” said Neal Donnelly, Director at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. “Thanks to the commitment, generosity and enthusiasm of Whitbread’s team members, customers and suppliers, the hospital will be able to fulfil its vision of providing world-class treatment in state-of-the-art facilities with more space, privacy and comfort for patients and families. We will also be able to keep up with the growing demand for our services and treat more children from across the UK who need our care.”
Simon Ewins, CSR Director for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants said “On behalf of Whitbread, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of our team members who have gone above and beyond with their fundraising but would also like to extend my thanks to our suppliers and guests who have helped us to reach this incredible £5m milestone. We’re now well on our way to reaching our ambitious target of £7.5m to help build the Premier Inn Clinical Building at Great Ormond Street Hospital.”
The Premier Inn Clinical Building, which is set to open in 2017, will include a new surgery centre, a respiratory ward and a 16 bed isolation unit for children with dermatology and rheumatology conditions or infectious diseases. The new facilities will provide much needed space for a parent or carer to stay by the child’s bedside overnight, more room for children to play and eat together and areas for parents to have a break.
Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants runs Premier Inn and hub by Premier Inn, as well as Beefeater Grill, Brewers Fayre, Table Table, Whitbread Inns and Taybarns. They announced Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity as their nominated charity in May 2012.
